Kochi: A resent has followed after the Kerala state government had refused to send the representatives group, to the Vatican in order to attend the canonization of Blessed Mariam Thresia. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala posted on Facebook that this act is in vengeance against the Christian faith and one of disrespect to the people of Kerala. Previously, during the canonization of Saint Alphonsa, Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, Saint Euphrasia, and Saint Mother Teresa, the then respective governments, both Central and state had taken the initiative to send the representative groups. However, in present times, bhagavan mint has turned away faces from the Christian faith full and this has deeply hurt the sentiments of the community, said Chennithala.
Former MLA and current KPCC spokesperson, Joseph Vazhakkan said that the state government representatives group from the birthplace of the saint, not attending the canonization in Rome is shameful and it is an act of disrespect showcased by the state government towards the Christian faithful. He also lodged that such negligence is wrongful and beyond tolerable limits. He urged the state government to apologize to the Christians in the state and also to the Indian Catholic Church as a whole.
The whole situation was analyzed and discussed by the Catholic Forum Kendra Committee. As a result, they also released a note that expressed hurt on the nature of the current state government that did not send representatives to the ceremony which honoured a noble human being for her selfless service for the state and country. The committee asked the state government to make amendments to their nature of behaviour during the entire course of the event.
