Kochi: The Kerala Inter-Church Council has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the Turkish President’s decision to turn the Hagia Sophia Cathedral, a symbol of unity and religious harmony, into a mosque. Built during the heyday of the Byzantine Empire in the 6th century, Hagia Sophia was a symbol of the sacred heritage of Christendom and an important pilgrimage center for Christians for many centuries. It was later declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In a press release, the leaders of various churches in Kerala demanded that the decision be reconsidered.
