Kampala: African Archbishop Cyprian Levanga has suggested that the Holy Communion be accepted in the hands of the Holy Prophet and that the Holy Eucharist be given only in the tongue. The Archbishop of Uganda, who presided over the Archdiocese of Kampala in Uganda, issued a decree issued on February 1 to the clergy and the faithful. Archbishop Cyprien also forbade the sacrament of consecration in homes by that decree. The new order was issued following discussions between clergy and parish council representatives.
Earlier, the Holy Qur’an could be accepted by believers in the hands and tongues. But from now on the clergy can offer the Holy Mass only in the tongue. Archbishop Ciprian Levanga has noted in his decree that the Church has the authority to grant bishops the authority of the Church (Canon Law 392: 2). The Archbishop reminded us that there is a situation where the Holy Qurbana is not being given due respect when it is accepted into the hands of the Holy Spirit, and therefore we can go back to the tongue which gives more reverence to the Holy Eucharist.
Divine sacrifice in homes is forbidden to be offered in holy places where it is not holy. The decree states that there are enough churches in the Archdiocese to offer the Holy Communion, and therefore there is no need to offer Holy Communion at home. The Archbishop said that those who are having extramarital sex should not undergo any holy rites. Another important decision is the prohibition of ordinary believers from offering the Holy Mass. All these proposals will be implemented immediately in the Archdiocese.
