KOCHI: The Apostolic (first bishop of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam today), the first vicar of Ernakulam Vicariate, is a hundred years old. A special service will be held at the funeral service tomorrow evening. Mar Pazheparanpil was able to initiate the initial training of the clergy in the diocese, as well as the establishment of several schools, parishes, churches, orphanages, and monasteries under various churches including St. Mary’s in Aluva. He served the Archdiocese for 23 years.

He was born in a tamarind bungalow near Changanassery. At the age of thirteen, Carmelita Nishpaduka joined the Third Church. Later he became the vicar of Pulinkunnu Church, his parish. He served for nine years as secretary to Bishop Lavigne, and on October 25, 1896, he was a Delegate Apostolic in Kandy. The bishop was adopted from Zaleski. On November 5, 1896, he became the first Vicar of the Vicariate of Ernakulam. The chapel of the late Mar Louis Pazeparampil is located at St. Mary’s Basilica in Ernakulam.
