Iringelakuda: Bishop Mar Pol Kannukadan of Bishop of Iringalakuda said in reply to the allegations that the body of Dinni Chacko, who died of corona disease, was cremated after the funeral service, it was alleged that it was unfair. He made the matter clear through a Facebook post. He noted that it was anti-church and unscriptural and that some had misunderstood the Catholic Church’s religious doctrine.

Some have mistakenly believed that the body of Dinni Chacko, who died of cowardice, was buried in the grave after the burial of a dead man. In paragraph 2301 of the Catholic Teachings of the Catholic Church, it is taught, ‘The church allows the body to be buried unless there is doubt in the resurrection of the body.’ In paragraph 1176 of the Latin Canon Code and in the canons of the Eastern churches, it states, “Digestion is not prohibited unless it is for reasons contrary to Christian teaching.” The Church officially teaches that the burning of the body in times of emergency is not against the Christian faith.

If the spread of coronavirus continues uncontrollably and someone dies unexpectedly, cremating instead of buried after the funeral services will help ease the fear of the general public. After cremation, the physical remains may be cremated and buried in the tomb.
