Abuja: The Nigerian Information Minister has said that Islamic extremist groups are pushing for a religious war through continuous attacks targeting Christians. Information Minister Lai Mohammed said on Thursday that jihadist groups in the north-eastern part of the country have adopted a policy of “perpetual attacks on Christians.” He also appealed to the religious leaders not to resort to insurgency to divide and weaken the country.

They have targeted Christians and Christian villages with a specific project. They are aiming for a religious war aimed at destroying the country. He cited several instances, for example. He cited the December 2014 beheading of 10 Christians by a pro-Islamic State organization, the killing of a man, and the killing of the chairman of the Boko Haram and Christian Association in January.

According to a report released by the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust, ‘Your Land or Your Blood’, there were over 1,000 Christians killed in Nigeria in 2019 last year. At the same time, attacks on Christians in Nigeria are routine, but the media has remained silent.
