Patna: St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology in Patna on November 26 marked the Constitution Day with various programs. The students of various streams explained the significance of the Indian Constitution in today’s context through presentations.
Initially, the students organized a procession with a copy of the Constitution to the APJ Abdul Kalam Hall. Addressing the gathering, Professor B Choudhary traced the origin of the Constitution and said the need for the first such statute was felt nearly 400 years ago. Jesuit Rev. Fr. Raj Kumar shared his experience to show the essence of the Indian Constitution and termed it as a “spiritual book.”
The events were judged by college rector Jesuit Rev. Fr. Joseph Thadavanal and Professors Piyush Ranjan Sahay and Alok Mohit. Principal Jesuit priest, Rev. Fr. T Nishaant, vice-principal Jesuit priest Rev. Fr. Martin Poras and all members of the faculty attended the program. The function was organized by the college social awareness club.
India celebrates its Constitution Day or National Law Day on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India on the same day in 1949 by the Constituent Assembly of India.
Indian government declared November 26 as Constitution Day on November 19, 2015, by a gazette notification. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the declaration on October 11, 2015, while laying the foundation stone of the B. R. Ambedkar’s Statue of Equality memorial in Mumbai. The day marked the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar, who had chaired the drafting committee of the Constituent Assembly and played a pivotal role in the drafting of the constitution.
