Jesuit Father Noel Kantilal Sheth was one among the most eminent personality who devoted his entire life touching the humanity with his excellence and humbleness to develop the Catholic Churches to reach its heights. Fr. Sheth died of heart attack on July 8, 2017, while attending a conference in Bogota, the capital of South America. Fr. Noel Sheth was currently teaching in St. Xavier’s College (Mumbai) and worked in its Heras Research Institute. He was a former President of Jnana-Deepa Vidhyapeeth, Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Religion in Pune and was the former Rector of Papal Seminary.
Papal seminary offered a special mass for the late Fr. Noel, presided by Rt. Rev.Dr.Thomas Dabre, Bishop of Pune, in which he grieved that “Fr. Noel was a real Jesuit and his sudden death is really shocking news.” Rev.Dr.Thomas also spoke about the scholarly commitment and administrative ability of Fr. Noel Sheth and described him as a close friend.
Efforts are on to bring his mortal remains to Mumbai, India, for people to pay homage. Fr. Noel was an adviser to the Jesuit General for inter-religious dialogue with Hinduism and was a member of the International Secretariat for Ecumenical and Inter-religious relations for the worldwide Society of Jesus.
