At the consistory in St.Peter’s Basilica, Holy Father Pope Francis advised the five newly appointed Cardinals to not consider themselves as Princes but to serve like Jesus and be like him. Pope Francis conveyed to the Cardinals to be never distracted by the interests and other prospects of life. His Holiness asked the Cardinals to always look at the reality because the reality is always a cross.
As reported by the americamagazine, His Holiness exhorted that, “Face the reality of the sin and evil in the world as Jesus did when he walked to the cross. During the ministry of Jesus, he made known the Father’s tender love by healing all who were oppressed by the evil one.” Further, he added, “In Jerusalem, Jesus realizes that the moment has come to press on to the very end, to eliminate evil at its root. And, so he walks resolutely towards the cross.”
Pope Francis called the five new Cardinals from Mali, Spain, Sweden, Laos and El Salvador. His Holiness reminded the Cardinals that, “ Follow Jesus and walk ahead of the holy people of God, with your gaze fixed on the Lord’s cross and resurrection.” Pope Francis gave each new Cardinal a red hat, a ring and the title to a Church in Rome, when he finished his homily.
