In late July 2018, severe flooding  affected Kerala state in India due to unprecedented high rainfall. This is considered as Kerala’s worst floods in nearly a century, over 350 people died within a fortnight, while at least 82,400 people were rescued. The Eparchy of Kalyan in Mumbai expressed their solidarity with the state through prayers and different effective initiatives to provide the flood affected Kerala with all the basic necessities and financial stability.

His Grace Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal of the Kalyan Diocese has urged the faithful of the diocese to pray for the flood victims of Kerala and has asked them to donate generously for the suffering brothers and sisters in Kerala. The Churches under the diocese had organized special prayers and adoration for Kerala. His Excellency Bishop Elavanal has asked the faithful of the diocese to minimize all the celebrations and urged them to donate that money to the relief fund of Kerala. Karunya Trust, the social action wing of the Eparchy, has come with an effective initiative to help the flood victims in Kerala by collecting funds from the faithful for this noble cause.

Collected funds will be utilized for the rehabilitation works at affected areas through different diocesan social work departments in Kerala. The people may give their contributions in favor of “Karunya Trust Relief Fund.” For NEFT details, kindly write to [email protected].
