Kochi: The KCBC Commission has asked the government to restrict the opening of liquor shops and the distribution of liquor in the face of the fear of COVID 19. Even during the lockdown, there were futile attempts to sell alcohol. Lockdown proved the government’s claim that the proceeds of liquor sales were beneficial to the country, society, and families.
Several states that have begun selling it have already withdrawn it. The chairman of the commission, Yohanan Mar Theodosius Metropolitan, noted that the lockdown helped to preserve life, property, peace, and the black market. KCBC held an online conference on liquor policy in Kerala with various anti-liquor movements, organizations, religious leaders, social, political, and cultural leaders in Kerala.
On this basis, the Commission has proposed to hold special prayers against liquor sales in all churches, families, and institutions tomorrow. Protests should also be held in compliance with the lock-down rules. The Chairman also informed that they would submit petitions to the government at the church level and at the leadership of mothers and children to demand that the liquor shops not be opened.
