Kochi: The Kerala Catholic Bishop’s Conference (KCBS)’s Pro-Life Committee president Sabu Jose urged the media to not give excess importance today news relating to murder and crime. In an address, he said that such news is responsible for the growing crime rate in the country. talking about the recent media attention given to a murder case, he asked the media to portray the importance of life and help the community in preserving the value of life by not glorifying crimes through visual and print media. He also spoke about the psychological impact this news is created on the perceivers. He further continued to say that such news cause apprehensions and fear among the public.
He released this statement soon after the Koodathayi Murder Case gained momentum. Asking the media to introspect, he mentioned that the new methods of portraying the murder repeatedly and releasing trolls on the trust laid on women, being shattered are all creating negative impacts on the society. Similarly, he also suggested that the government must censor shows that encourage abortions, suicides, and murders voluntarily and involuntarily and also those that create apprehensions and fear among the mass.
