His Excellency Bishop Philip Anyolo, the President of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, has expressed gratitude towards the bishops of South Sudan and Sudan for their solidarity message in view of the East Africa nation’s presidential re-run elections. The solidarity message signed by the president of the Conference, His Grace Bishop Edward Hiboro Kussala of Tombura-Yambio, the bishops of Sudan and South Sudan conveyed that they are praying for Kenya and urged Kenyans to choose the path of peace.
As reported by Vatican radio, Responding to the message received, His Excellency Bishop Anyolo, who is also the Bishop of Homabay Diocese, noted that “The message is a testimony from brothers and sisters in Christ, who have gone through enormous hardships and sufferings.” Recalling that Kenya welcomes millions of Sudanese refugees, His Grace Bishop Kussala remarked that “Kenya is our natural home and will ever be, so we wish her Peace, for this reason, we join our voice to yours to call on Kenyans to choose life over death, peace over violence.”
In the solidarity message, His Grace Bishop Kussala recalled the painful past South Sudan has experienced since the start of a civil war in the new nation in December 2013.
