Kothamangalam: The Kothamangalam diocese has formed a volunteer force to provide funeral services in the diocese to those who die of COVID. Volunteers, including clergy and laity from the diocese, follow the COVID protocol, and wear the PPE kit to offer prayers and related services for the funeral service. The volunteer force consisted of 22 priests and 61 laymen.
The service will be extended to non-Christians within the diocese upon request by the family members in case of unavailability to assist in the cremation of non-Christians affected by COVID and in writing with a recommendation from the local government and the Health Department. Kothamangalam Diocese Social Service Society, Catholic Congress, and Yuvadeepthi KCYM have formed the ‘Kothamangalam Samaritans’.
