Tagbilaran: The Philippine Bishop urges young people to set aside more time for Jesus than spending time on the phone. Monsignor Alberto, the bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, made the call at a youth leadership meeting held in the city of Tagbilaran on the island of Bohol on Diocesan Youth Day. He warned that the continued use of the mobile phone could turn into a bad habit.
Youth should pay more time and attention to Jesus than giving it to a mobile phone. We need to love Jesus more than we love the mobile phone. Bishop Alberto called on Jesus to take his heart wherever he went and to use social media for evangelization.
About 3,000 young people from different parishes of the diocese attended the meeting on November 24. The conference marked the end of the Youth Year announced by the Philippine Church. According to figures, the number of people using social media in the Philippines is much higher than the global average.
