His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church, urged the people to stand united to eradicate alcohol and drugs from the society. His Eminence Cardinal was addressing the gathering at Ernakulam St. Teresa’s Higher Secondary School during the observance of world’s temperance day organized by KCBC Temperance Commission. Hibi Eden MLA presided over the function.
As reported by deepika.com, His Eminence Cardinal Mar Alencherry remarked that “People who wish for the welfare of the society should stand united and fight against the usage of alcohols and drugs. Such fights for the society should continue. All the political- religious-cultural committees should carry on their war against this social evil. This war is important in order to lift up the standard of the society.”
Temperance commissions strive for a mission, saving people from the addictions of drugs and alcohol, and make them to experience the Life in abundance (Jn. 10: 10). KCBC constituted a Commission in 1998, Dec. 4th with the slogan “Alcohol free Church and Society”.
