Mary Matha Church, Sakinaka, has always stood beyond the box in their social activities and has always been a pioneer in extending their hands towards the needy ones. The Church has come up with a new initiative in helping the cancer patients of Tata Memorial Cancer Centre by providing them food; namely chappati and bhaji. The parishioners prepare the food items for the patients at their houses and bring it up in the Holy Mass and submit it as their offerings. The parish priest of the Church Fr. Zacharias Nilamkavil blesses the faithful for their food offerings.
The food items are then packed in a box and taken to the hospital where the patients strive to find even a bed in the crowded cancer wards. The patients awaiting a ray of hope find this work by the Church as a great help. There are thousands of patients in this cancer centre who are now literally waiting for their food packs from the Church. Mary Matha Church also tries their best to provide food items to other needy people as well and this makes the Church more closer to the word of God.
The faithful in Mary Matha Church always makes it a point to bring their food offerings during the Mass without fail and now this practice has become a routine for the people of this Church. Sometimes preparing food items early in the morning might seem difficult for the parishioners but when they think about the hope of the patients awaiting their food, they consider this difficulty as a worthy one!
