Ms. Iban Mawrie, an eminent participant in the on-going SIGNIS National Assembly 2018 while addressing the galaxy of intellectuals gathered for the Assembly, conveyed the threats of increasing fake news in the world. She highlighted that Media houses fall prey to fake news without verifying the news stories.

As reported by signis.com, Ms. Iban remarked that “Fake means false, incomplete and which tells of something exaggerated.  It is not good to just pick up stories from the social site without verifying the story. Fake news can either make or break one’s image. Pope Francis also shared his views on the Fake news saying it goes viral, truth can set us free.” Further, she added, “People in rural areas take news for Gospel truth. They just blindly believe it. We try our best to project truth but mistakes do happen. Need to take care of verifying news stories.”

The SIGNIS National Assembly 2018 (SINA 2018) scheduled for 21 to 24 February is going on at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati with the theme of the assembly is “Media: Current Trends and Emerging Challenges.”
