Mexico City: More than 1 million pilgrims arrived in Mexico City on Sunday to celebrate the feast of Mother Guadalupe, the symbol of Mexico’s mediocrity and nationalism, according to international news agency AFP. According to the report, there were various tents in the area surrounding the temple and a series of targets awaiting worship of the Mother of God. Mexico City Mayor Claudia Scheinbaum confirmed in a Twitter message that nearly 10.6 million pilgrims have made a pilgrimage to Guadalupe’s 488th anniversary this year.
The temple premises were literally festive, with mariachi music (local music) and unique dance forms. The temple has elaborate arrangements for the millions of pilgrims arriving on foot and vehicles. The pilgrims were welcomed by the board, “We respect your pilgrimage.” Most of the time I was surrounded by the image of the Mother of God.
The Basilica of the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe is a strong symbol of the Latin American Catholic faith. On December 12, 1531, the Holy Virgin Mary appeared to a poor farmer, Juan Diego, and her mother expressed her love for the people and suggested that a temple be built there. Guadalupe is celebrated on the feast of Mother Guadalupe. Devotion to Mother Guadalupe is widespread worldwide. Meanwhile, Guadalupe is considered as the largest pilgrimage destination in the world.
