Abuja: The Christian Association of Nigeria has responded to Saad Abubakar III, the Sokoto sultan of Nigeria, who has made the bizarre claim that Christians are not being persecuted in the country. The organization said that the Sultan was completely wrong. The organization cites 11 Christians who were killed on Christmas Day in the Western Nigeria province as an example of the persecution of believers in Nigeria. Instead of making a false argument, the Sultan should have remained silent on the matter, said Samuel Kamkur, the legal affairs director of The Christian Association of Nigeria, in a press release issued on Saturday.
Capturing the places of Christians and killing them is an eternal thing in Nigeria. “I am deeply saddened when I see in the media that the Sultan has said that there is no Christian persecution in the country,” he said. He added that the Sultan remained silent as he remained silent during the massacre of Christians. Samuel Kamkur has also compiled accounts of the killing of Christians by Fulani Muslim tribes in various parts of Nigeria to substantiate their claims.
He said that the Fulani tribes killed 1,000 Christians this year, and that the number of Christian killings in the year since 2012 was about six thousand, and that 12000 Christians had to flee. Samuel Kamkur, who is also the president-general of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, said he was surprised that Abu Bakr did not respond to the Christian killings. He urged the Nigerian government to treat all religious groups equally.
