In his homily delivered to a group of faithful gathered at Knock Shrine in country Mayo, Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, who is also the president of the 2018 World Meeting of Families, conveyed the significance of building and structuring a strong family and reminded that there is no such thing as the ideal family but there is an ideal of family, which is what the church is seeking to promote through the international gathering of families in Ireland.

As reported by thetablet.co.uk, His Excellency Archbishop Martin remarked that “The church must witness within society to what fidelity means and show young people that long-term fidelity leads to a deep fulfillment, and that there is real value in that.” Further, His Grace added, “The meeting is about long-term renewal and the international gathering, which up to 5000 families from overseas are expected to attend, would not be a seven day wonder.”

The meeting is scheduled 21-26 August, 2018, in Ireland, with the theme “The Gospel of the Family: Joy For the World.”
