Vatican City: Pope Francis calls the nurses and midwives as ‘neighborhood saints’ with a spirit of dedication. The Pope was delivering a message for International Nurses’ Day yesterday. The pope said the high light of the risen Lord, praying for them, would bring relief to the faith of their families, as evidenced by their faithful service to the high number of health workers who died of the virus.

Called “yes” to the special call to be in contact with those who are suffering daily, they are reminded that as a good Samaritan, they are guardians of life and care for others and care for them and that they provide courage, hope, and faith.

Moral responsibility is the hallmark of their profession. It should not be confined to scientific and technical knowledge. The Pope said that the nurses needed to be constantly listening to people from every stage of their life from birth to death and that they needed discernment and personal care in order to provide patients with every need. The pope concluded his message by thanking the Pope for her work in the health of the community as a whole.
