Toulon: Sister Andre Randon, the Daughters of Charity member and French native, has been honored with the 100th birthday of the world’s oldest nun. He was celebrating his birthday on February 11 at St. Catherine’s Retirement Home in Toulon, France with his family and friends. Sister Andre Randon is the oldest person in Europe and the second oldest person in the world. Kane Tanaka, the 117-year-old Japanese woman, is ahead of Sister Randon in terms of age.
Sister Andre Randon was born on February 11, 1904 in Randon, Louisiana. At the age of twenty-six, Sister Seneca was converted to the Catholic faith. Fifteen years later, at the age of forty, she joins the Sister Daughters of Charity. Sister Randon spent 76 years as the bride of Christ, though she joined the monastery late. In 2009, she moved to St. Catherine’s Retirement Home to take care of her age.
Sister Randon has never given up his sense of humor, despite being in a wheelchair after losing his sight. On his birthday, Sister said that he hopes the good God will not be late and will not allow him to wait any longer. Sister Randon pointed to the secret of her happiness and long health: daily prayer and a cup of chocolate. Sister says that it is her joy every day to pray. Last year, Sister Randon’s 115th birthday was celebrated by Pope Francis with a letter of thanks.
