Niamey, Niger: It’s been a year since Italian Priest was abducted from his Home Parish in Niger, exactly a year ago on 17th September, 2019. Until today, no details regarding the abducted priest are known to anyone. Rev. Fr. Luigi Macalli was a missionary priest in the Ivory Coast for many years before being sent to the Archdiocese of Niamey, Niger. The Diocese was an eerie place with no basic facilities like roads or communication services.
“On Tuesday, 17 September 2019, we commemorate the first anniversary of the abduction of our Italian SMA confrere, Fr. Pier Luigi Maccalli,” the Society of African Missions, Macalli’s religious community, posted online on Tuesday.
“It is a sad day for the Society of African Missions, for his missionary brothers, his family and especially for the people of Niger whom Fr. Luigi served with great faithfulness and love.”
The Priest was abducted in the darkness of the night. As per reports, another priest was also abducted alongwith, who later managed to escape soon.
After several days into the matter, it was revealed that Macalli was taken away past the Niger’s periphery to Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso is one such place, where the interior forests are captured by the Jihadists Militants.
