KARACHI: A Christian girl was kidnapped and bound in Karachi, Pakistan, forcibly converted to Islam and forced to marry, a court has said. The court said that the girl had completed the menstrual cycle when abducted and married. The Sindh court is in dire straits. With the verdict, 14-year-old Huma Younus has become a coconut among Christians in Pakistan.

Abdul Jabbar, an Islamic fanatic, abducted Huma and forcibly married her in October last year. The girl’s lawyer, Tabass, came to the court on January 19, requesting that the case be finally presented in court after months of interference and to assist her in the legal battle. The lawyer made serious allegations during a press conference held by Ann. She revealed that Huma’s parents were helpless and received numerous threatening messages after she lodged a police complaint.

A bill to criminalize child marriage has been introduced in Pakistan’s parliament but has not been approved. Religious minorities, including Christians and Hindus, find it difficult to protect their girls from the perpetrators of conversion. Huma has become the latest example of extreme discrimination against Christians, even in the courts of hard-line Islamic-minded Pakistan.
