It was around 1900 (113–125 AD) that the Pantheon, a center of architecture and sculpture of the Roman Empire, began to occupy the Italian capital city. At the entrance of the Pantheon is written the Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, the three-time consul of Rome, who built this magnificent temple, which combines the portico of the Greek temples with the portico of the sculpture, and the main building and dome of Roman architecture.

However, historians testify that Marcus Agrippa’s temple was built by the first emperor of the Roman Empire, Marcus Agrippa (45–12 BC) after the destruction of the Pantheon, which was built in 125 AD by the emperor Hadrian.

The meaning of the word Pantheon

For all the gods. Therefore, historians see the Pantheon as a temple dedicated to all the pagan gods of Rome. The 142 feet (43 m) in diameter and 71 feet (22 m) in height, the Pantheon’s Dome is considered one of the largest domes in the world. The fact that the top of it is open is astonishing to both architects and tourists alike.

This large hole called the oculus, or eye is equally distributed across the dome. Michael Angelo, a renowned sculptor who visited the Pantheon at the beginning of the 16th century, said: “It is not the human form but the angel’s.” The dome of the Basilica of St. Peter’s, named after Michael Angelo Vatican, was designed by Pantheon’s dome.

In the seventh century, the Catholic Church is dedicated to becoming the pantayean. In 609 AD, the Byzantine emperor Focus gave Boniface IV a pantheon, and on the thirteenth of May, at the behest of the Pope, it became known as the Catholic Church in the name of his mother and martyrdom. The iconic image of his mother and the remains of martyrs found in the catacombs of the underground cemeteries of Rome was dedicated to the Temple.

On the day of Pentecost, we commemorate the coming down of the Holy Spirit to help the mother and the saints assembled in the Zion Zone Outpost. Although this commemoration is performed in all the temples of Rome, the celebration at Pantheon is very special. The red rose petals are poured on believers by the oculus above the Pantheon’s Dome to commemorate the arrival of the Holy Spirit in the form of fiery tongues at the end of the celebration of Pentecost.

Rome firefighters are preparing for this. Thousands of believers come to the temple every year to perform the ritual, but only about a quarter of them enter the Pantheon. The authorities said that this action would not have taken place in the face of the coronavirus this year and that the Holy Mass was only broadcast in the absence of believers.
