His Excellency Michel Aupetit was installed as the new Archbishop of Paris, in Notre-Dame Cathedral. Around 30 bishops attended the installation Mass, including His Grace Archbishop Georges Pontier of Marseille, president of the French Bishops’ Conference and Apostolic Nuncio His Excellency Archbishop Luigi Ventura.
As reported by La Croix, His Grace Archbishop Aupetit remarked that “Learn to recognize the divine dignity in the weakest, the poorest, the most fragile.” 66-year-old new Archbishop had previously served as an auxiliary bishop of Paris from 2013 to 2014 when he was appointed as the Bishop of Nanterre.
His Grace Archbishop Michel Aupetit practiced medicine from 1979 to 1990 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Paris in 1995 at the age of 44. The only practicing Catholic in his family was his mother.
