Several PAS(Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party) met Catholic leaders of the Malacca-Johor Diocese to discuss issues related to peace and religious harmony in the country, which also included the recently passed amendments to the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce)Act, 1976. The meeting is considered as a comprehensive one in which the leaders discussed various aspects to foster peace in Malaysia.
As reported by malaysiakini.com, Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil, Johor PAS commissioner remarked that “Several issues were raised during the meeting including the amendments to the Syriah Courts(Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 and the Law Reform Act 1976, hudud law and interethnic and inter-religious ties.”
Christianity in Malaysia is a minority religion practiced by 9.2% of the population, two-thirds of the 2.617 million Christians live in East Malaysia in Sabah and Sarawak where they are together 30% of the population.
