Kannur: Tens of thousands of people flocked to the Collectorate grounds, where the farmers’ meeting was held yesterday as part of the Uttaramalabar agitation. The difficulties faced by agriculture in the new era were evident in the faces of the peasants who reached the collectorate grounds. The bishops who attended the meeting were greeted with a sackcloth. Representatives including MPs and MLAs took to the stage to greet the gathering. Those who came to the farm were sitting in front of the venue. In the meantime, peasant slogans were rising from the assembly city.

Thalassery Archbishop Mar George Naralakat said in his inaugural address that the agrarian agitation will not end with this great meeting but will continue with agitation till the demands of the peasantry are met. The government should be prepared to write off the farm crashes. The Archbishop said that if the government did not allow the killing of wild animals destroying the farmer’s farms, the farmers would find the solution.

Discussions will be held with the state government along with the strike. With the help of MPs from Kerala, the Prime Minister will meet the Prime Minister in Delhi to discuss the issue. The Farmers Producer Company will be set up with the objective of storing, distributing agricultural resources and setting up factories to produce value-added products. He added that food security will be promoted and food security will be more important than cash crops.

DCL Kochhetan Roy Kannanchira, AKCC Global Secretary Adv. Tony Punchakkunnel, Youth Asian President Sijo Ampat, Vincent de Paul Women’s National President Jolly Karakunnel and Shukoor Kanaje were also present.
