Kottayam: Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India Late Council Secretary Chevalier Adv. Sebastian said at the beginning of fasting, that the first martyr of India, Devasahayam Pillai and his martyrdom, will give the believers a deeper thought into spirituality.
Pillai’s way of life, having been shot and killed for the sake of faith, will lead to strength in a shaky faith situations for the Christian community in modern times. He pointed out that Pillai’s life-style and sacred status are the strengths of the Christian Church and the institutions of the Church and the militant movements and extremist movements that are openly and unequivocally attacking and insulting from various centers.
