Vatican City: The Vatican on Tuesday, celebrated the Vatican’s interfaith dialogue with representatives of the Assyrian Church of the East. Rev. Fr. Gigi Puthuveettillam was appointed by the Pontifical Council for the Unity of the Vatican. This important debate is attended by ten delegates, including church leaders and theologians from both churches.
Representatives of Thrissur-based Chaldea Syrian Church, chaired by Mar Afrem Mookan Metropolitan, are also participating in this debate from Kerala as part of the Assyrian Church of the East. The Assyrian Church, which bears a great resemblance to the Syro-Malabar Church, has a tradition of worship in the Chaldea.
He joined the Council in 2003. Rev. Fr. Gigi Puthuveettillam is currently a doctoral research student at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and the University of Oxford in England. He is currently a member of the Central Liturgical Committee of the Syro-Malabar Church and a consultant to the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Great Britain. This past July, the Pope appointed him as the observer of the church’s dialogue in Lebanon with the Catholic-Oriental Orthodox Churches.
