His Grace Bishop Miguel Ayuso Guixot is appointed as the new head of Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue by Pope Francis. He will be succeeding Late Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran who died in July 2018. Bishop Miguel has earlier served as the secretary of the Vatican Dicastery.

         Born in Seville on 17 June 1952, Bishop Angel Ayuso Guix was Combonian Missionary of the Heart of Jesus. He had his ordination on 20th 1980. Having served as a missionary in Egypt and Sudan until 2002, he obtained a degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) in Rome in 1982, and a doctorate in dogmatic theology at the University of Granada in 2000. He has worked as a Professor of Islamology initially in Khartoum and then in Cairo. He later taught at PISAI, where he held the office of Dean until 2012. He has presided over various meetings of inter-religious dialogue.

The Pontifical Council For Interreligious Dialogue (PCID) is a Dicastery of the Roman Curia erected by Pope Paul VI on 19th May 1964. Initially, the Dicastery was known as the Secretariat for Non –Christians but it later changed to the current name by Pope John Paul II on 28th June 1988. The Dicastery aims at promoting mutual understanding and collaboration between the Catholics and the followers of other religion.
