The Pope has instructed Cardinal Oswald Gracias to remain the Archbishop of Mumbai. On the 24th of December, at the age of seventy-five, Cardinal Gracias wrote his letter of resignation. In response, the Pope has asked Cardinal to continue as Archbishop of Bombay. Bishop Alvin DeSilva said the Pope’s action was welcome and welcomed the decision. Gracias is a member of a nine-member cardinal group known as the abbreviated C Nayan (C9), which was formed to assist Pope Francis in the revival of the Roman Curia.
