Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Peter Sebastian Goveas of Bhagalpur Diocese as the new Bishop of Bettiah; the provision was made public in Rome on July 22, 2017. Bishop-elect Goveas has served the Diocese as Assistant Parish Priest at Demruhat and Administrator of schools and has also served as Diocesan Consultor. He was a Vicar General at Bhagalpur at the time of the new appointment.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) congratulated him and remarked that “We offer prayerful greetings and wholehearted collaboration as Fr. Peter Sebastian is preparing himself to begin his Episcopal ministry.”
Bishop-elect Peter Sebastian has a degree in Bachelor of Arts from Calcutta University and he was ordained a priest on 9th December, 1983 for Bhagalpur.
