His Grace Bishop Daniel Garcia, Auxiliary Bishop of Austin, Texas since 1915, has been appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis as the Bishop of Monterey in California.
His Excellency Bishop Garcia was born in Cameron, Texas in 1960. He was ordained a priest in 1988 after completing studies at the St Mary’s Seminary which is part of University of St Thomas in Houston, TX. In 2007 he obtained a Master’s Degree in Liturgy from St John’s University in Collegeville, MN.
His Grace Bishop Garcia succeeds Bishop Richard Garcia who died in July 2018.
