Holy Father Pope Francis and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew together on 1st September, 2017 , the day marked as the Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, conveyed a joint message to the world regarding the significance of the creation and reminded the faithful to pray and to reflect on how to live in a simple manner, responsibly using earthly goods.
As reported by Vatican News, the joint message of Holy Father Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew stated that “The human environment and the natural environment are deteriorating together, and this deterioration of the planet weighs upon the most vulnerable of its people and the impact of the climate change first and foremost affects those who live in poverty in every corner of the globe.” Further, it stated that “Our obligation to use the earth’s goods responsibly implies the recognition of and respect for all people and all living creatures.
The message emphasized the urgent call and challenge to care for the creation and reflected it as an invitation for all of the humanity to work towards sustainable and integral development. The message was concluded by appealing to those in positions of social, economic, as well as political and cultural responsibility, to hear the cry of the earth.
