Holy Father Pope Francis grants assent to construct new Eparchy, for the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church to erect the Eparchy of Chernivtsi, with its seat in the same city and with territory taken from the Eparchy of Kolomyia-Chernivtsi. His Excellency Bishop Yosafat Moshchych, currently titular Bishop of Pulcheriopoli and auxiliary of Ivano-Frankovsk, has been selected as the first Bishop of the Eparchy of Chernivtsi by the Synod of Bishops of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
His Grace Bishop Yosafat received his priestly formation at the major seminary of Ivano-Frankovsk and was ordained a priest on 26th September, 1999. He devoted himself to the activities of evangelization and missionary and spiritual formation and has also served as superior general of the Missionary Congregation of Saint Andrew the Apostle and head of evangelization activities.
His Excellency Bishop Yosafat was elected as the auxiliary Bishop of Ivano-Frankovsk and received the Episcopal chirotony on 3rd August, 2014.
