Holy Father Pope Francis announced his intention to visit Bangladesh and Myanmar at the end of this year. The slow organizational process in India has resulted to select Myanmar instead. The chosen date of visit will likely be toward the end of November. His Holiness will again travel to countries with very low Christian minorities. In Myanmar, the majority of people practice Buddhism, with only 5% of Christians.
The Rohingyas, Myanmar’s Muslim minority are now facing serious humanitarian crises and are the victims of Myanmar’s government and are not even recognized as citizens. Knowing the mounting crises in these countries, Holy Father Pope Francis expressed his wish to visit these Asian countries in order to pray and speak to the suffering people in the country.
His Holiness has expressed his deepest concern for Rohingyas during the International day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking, the feast of St. Josephine Bhakita, on February 8, 2017.
