Holy Father Pope Francis has sent a telegramme expressing his condolences for the victims of a tragic bus crash in Peru and ensured his closeness to their families. In the telegramme, His Holiness Pope Francis sent his consolation to the relatives who mourn such a painful loss, as well as his spiritual closeness to the wounded. His words of comfort came in the telegramme signed by His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and sent through the Apostolic Nunciature in Peru.

As reported by Vatican radio, the telegramme read, “The Holy Father deeply saddened at the tragic news of the road traffic accident which occurred in Pasamayo, claiming many victims, offers prayers for the eternal repose of the souls of the deceased.” Further, it said, “I ask your Excellency to convey His Holiness’ condolences, along with expressions of consolation to the relatives who mourn such a painful loss, as well as their spiritual closeness to the wounded, while asking the Lord to pour upon them all the gifts of spiritual serenity and Christian hope; as a pledge he imparts his heartfelt apostolic blessing.”

At least 48 people were killed when a bus collided with a tractor-trailer on a narrow road along Peru’s coast. The accident took place in the Peruvian city of Pasamayo about 43 miles north of Lima, the bus plunged from the highway onto the rocks below, killing the majority of the 57 passengers on board.
