In a telegram sent to His Excellency Bishop Hilary Paul Odili Okeke of Nnewi, Holy Father Pope Francis conveyed his sympathy, condolences and prayers to the victims of Southern Nigeria attack at a Catholic Church which left 11 dead and several more wounded. The telegram signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin came after the gunmen stormed at St. Philip’s Church in the city of Ozubulu early morning.
As reported by Catholic News Agency, His Holiness Pope Francis remarked that “I extend my heartfelt condolences to you and to all the faithful of the Diocese of Nnewi, in particular, the families of the deceased and all those affected by this tragedy.”
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The police have begun the investigation in the hopes of finding those responsible for the evil attack on the Church.
