Holy Father Pope Francis returned to Rome on Monday, concluding his 22nd Apostolic Journey outside of Italy. In the press conference aboard the flight back to Italy, His Holiness Pope Francis conveyed that he was touched by the warmth of the people he met and mentioned them their faith as unbelievable. His Holiness Pope Francis also highlighted that there were many emotional moments during the visit especially his visit to the women’s prison in Santiago.
As reported by Vatican Radio, the Holy Father remarked that he was especially moved by his visit to the women’s prison in Santiago. “Seeing these women, the ability to change their lives, to return to society with the power of the Gospel, moved me very much.” He also mentioned his meeting in Puerto Maldonado, in the Amazonian rainforest; and the encounter with young girls and boys in the “Little Prince” Children’s home in Peru.
Other topics touched on during the press conference included questions on environmental policies that contrast protection of nature with the protection of human beings; and the necessity of rooting out corruption in South America.
