Jakarta: Pope Francis may visit Indonesia’s largest Islamic country Indonesian Muslim leader Sheikh Yahia Chloe Stackwolf revealed to the media after his visit with Pope Francis. He also mentioned that the visit will be in September. Pope Nerteh had expressed his desire to visit Indonesia. The Vatican, however, has not responded to the matter. The Islamic leader has indicated that he will visit the neighboring country of East Timor and Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific Ocean.
Indonesia is a country that represents 12% of the world’s Muslims. There are 24 million Christians here. Seven million believers are Catholics. Pope Paul VI in 1970 and Pope John Paul II in 1989 visited Indonesia. 98% of East Timor people are Catholic. Pope John Paul II visited the site in 1989. Papua New Guinea is a Christian majority country. The Vatican is expected to respond immediately to the issue of apostolic visitation.
