Pope Francis has reprehended the naming of the US Military’s biggest non-nuclear explosive as “The Mother of All Bombs”. The Pontiff is of the opinion that a word as pure and unsullied as ‘Mother’ should not be used in reference to a catastrophic weapon.
Speaking to a group of students at the Vatican on May 6, the Pope said he was “ashamed” when he heard the name. ‘A mother gives life and this one gives death, and we call this device a mother. What is happening?’ The leader of the Catholic church made his comments after the US Air Force dropped the bomb, officially designated as the GBU-43 Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) on suspected Islamic State fighters in eastern Afghanistan last month.
Pope Francis has criticized the naming of the bomb as “the Mother of All Bombs,” saying motherhood should not be in any way associated with a weapon. The Pope’s criticism comes ahead of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on May 24.
