MANILA: A wave of protests in the Philippines over the legalization of divorce has led to alarm. The Divorce Bill (Absolute Divorce Bill of 2019) was approved by the Parliamentary House Committee on Population and Family Relations last week. The Council of the Leyte, a group of like-minded organizations, said Congress should take steps to strengthen family ties and not disrupt them. The office-bearers said that marriage is a gift to the family and that they should be protected.
“The organization has a strong objection to the divorce law being enforced,” said Rukal Ponti. He added that the Philippines hopes to be a beacon of hope for the community and families. Rukal Ponti added that those who advocate divorce should understand the plight of other countries that have granted a divorce. He said divorce and divorce can be a trick for couples and children alike. Rukal Ponti is also the leader of the organization The Couples for Christ. The Philippines is the only country in the world that does not allow divorce apart from the Vatican.
