Moscow: The Constitution will be amended to include the Russian People’s Confession of God. The action of the Putin administration is on the request of the Russian Orthodox Church. Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday presented a 24-page document that outlawed same-sex marriage. Putin has publicly declared that he will not allow same-sex marriage in Russia as long as he is president.

At the same time, the amendments will come into effect only after the Duma (parliament) passed on March 10 and a nationwide hearings on April 22. Russia now follows a constitution that was drafted 27 years ago. In his State of the Union speech in January, Putin made his first mention of the constitutional amendment.

Most of the Russian Christians are members of the Russian Orthodox Church. There is a strong bond between the Orthodox Church and the government. Putin, a strong pro-life-minded person, has announced plans to provide financial assistance and loan waivers to families with more children. Communist Russia, once the largest atheist nation in the world, is today a strong fruit of the Christian faith.

Although the blood of many Christians fell on Russian soil during the Bolshevik Revolution, the result is that Russia is advancing in the faith today. By the year 2019, the number of churches in Russia will be ten thousand more than in 2009.
