WASHINGTON, DC – US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania have unveiled their message of condolence, calling on the people to repent and accept the gospel. In a presidential message released on February 26, Trump and his wife said they would be joining hands with Christians, including Catholics, on the day of the Lenten Crucifixion. This is the first time the Trump administration has issued a statement regarding lent.
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of fasting for Catholics and many other Christians. Millions of Christians today draw the cross on their foreheads. The ash cross on the forehead is an invitation to indulge in fasting, prayer and merciful acts. May this powerful and sacred tradition remind us of the sharing of moral values and of Christ’s saving love. Trump wrote in his statement that it is at this holy time to repent and accept the gospel more fully. Earlier, Ash Wednesday’s divine sacrifice was organized in the White House.
Former President Barack Obama and his wife released the Ash Wednesday message last week. Unlike previous administrations, faith in God is the force behind the Trump administration’s policy plans. The president’s closeness to religion and faith in God and his stance on moral issues, including abortion, have given American conservatives much hope. He has repeatedly stated that the faith of God is essential for America to be a great nation.
