Thiruvanathapuram – Similar to the “Christ the Redeemer” statue of Brazil, the Vizhinjam coast in Kerala has been blessed with a same model.  On 05th February, Major Archbishop M. Soosa Pakiam of the Latin Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram consecrated the statue and inaugurated the Kottappuram St. Joseph Shrine, attached to the Our Lady Of Good Voyage Church,  Vizhinjam, Trivandrum, Kerala.

“The statue is the ‘visible image of the invisible God’.”, said His Excellency during the consecration Mass.  There is something special regarding the dimensions of the statue.  “The dimensions of the statue has been fixed based on the number of years Jesus lived – 33.  Therefore, the statue is 33ft in height and 33ft wide with the arms outstretched”, says Fr. Pious of the Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram.  The concrete made statue was created by Mr. Rajesh Amal in two years time.
