His Excellency Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal of Kalyan Diocese while addressing the gathering during the first meeting of 12th Pastoral Council held at Bishops House, Powai, reminded them about their responsibility to take care of the earth. The meeting was organized with the theme ‘Our Relationship with Nature and Environment’ on 28th July, 2018. His Grace Mar Thomas Elavanal focused and explained 15 important topics from ‘Laudato Si’, second encyclical of His Holiness Pope Francis with the subtitle “On care for our common home”.
His Grace Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal remarked that “Earth can be considered as our mother. In the book of Genesis, we read that God created Man from the dust. So we can see that God created Man from earth and he will go back to the earth. And how are we nourished, it is through the products of the earth. So ultimately, we have an intimate relationship with the earth. Earth is our mother and we are her children.” Further, the Bishop added, “Earth is created for our use and thus we should not misuse it because in Bible we have already read that the Earth and all its belongings belong to its Creator. God has given us his part of creation i.e. the earth and so we should be responsible enough to take care of it.”
His Excellency Bishop Mar Elavanal concluded his remarks by exhorting the gathering to be responsible and compassionate enough to take care of the earth, considering it as a personal duty in life. Lifecat- a book on Pro-Life was launched during the Pastoral Council Meeting.
