The Episcopal Ordination of Mar James Athikalam, the newly appointed Bishop of Sagar Diocese, was held on 17th April, 2018 at St. Thomas Cathedral, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church, was the chief- celebrant for the ordination services.
His Excellency Mar Joseph Perumthottam, Archbishop of Archeparchy of Changanassery, Mar Anthony Chirayath, Retired Bishop of Sagar Diocese, Bhopal Archbishop Dr Leo Cornelio, Ujjain Bishop Mar Sebastian Vadakkel, were the co-celebrants in the services. Thousands of faithful attended the ceremony and welcomed the new Bishop with joy and prayers.
The ecclesiastical provision of the new appointment of Mar James Athikalam was made public in Rome on Friday, 12th January, 2018, at noon local time, corresponding to 16:30 hours, Indian Standard Time.
