Most Rev. Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX, the Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India and His Excellency Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi along with 8 other representatives from the Archdiocese of Delhi were received by the Honorable Vice- President of India Mr. Venkaiah Naidu on 24th August, 2017.
Most Rev. Theodore Mascarenhas remarked that “We promise the Vice-President the prayers of the Catholic Church in his work of upholding the Constitutions and the democratic secular values of the Country.” Rev. Mascarenhas also gifted Mr. Naidu a photo frame of St. Joseph with Baby Jesus while His Grace Archbishop Anil presented a bouquet of flowers. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu stressed that “Narendra Modi is a secular person who is interested only in the development of the country by including everybody in his developmental programmes and it is the politicians who are causing divisions on basis of caste and religion and use religious and caste groups as vote banks and the common people are not interested in these issues.” When asked about GauRakshak issues, the Vice-President of India reminded that “The cow is important but the human beings are more important.”
Honorable Vice President also appreciated the Christian community and highlighted it as a peaceful community that contributes much to the growth of the country.
